The 2019 BMW X7 offers a couple different engine options - one for each of the available trims. The base X7 xDrive40i model includes a powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that outputs 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. The XDrive50i features a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that generates a whopping 456 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. This V8 engine will provide strong acceleration and some impressive towing power. Regardless of which trim you choose, you'll get a smooth-shifting eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. Driving Dynamic Controls allow you to adjust driving performance to your preferences. Driving modes include ECO Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ driving modes.
Fuel economy ratings for the X7 vary depending on the engine, but with the base model, you can get as much as 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Thanks to a new automatic start-stop system, the BMW X7 is much more efficient than previous X models. Another energy-saving system allows you to shift torque entirely to the rear wheels when all-wheel drive, which comes standard, is not needed. Additionally, the vehicle uses Brake Energy Regeneration.
The BMW X7's interior boasts plenty of space for passengers, eliminating any sense of claustrophobia. Large windows and a panoramic glass roof make the cabin feel open without being exposed to the elements. The vehicle can seat up to seven passengers, but if you swap out the second row for more comfortable captain's chairs, then that number is reduced to six. Seats feature synthetic leather upholstered seats but real leather with heating and massaging capability is optional. When it comes to cargo space, seats can be folded to allow for a maximum of 90.4 cubic feet of space. As for the infotainment system, you'll get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay. Optional features in the X7 include a Panorama Sky Lounge LED Roof that embeds colorful LED lights in the sunroof and a premium Harmon Kardon audio system.
Safety features in the X7 are plentiful as well. Standard safety tech includes a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, frontal collision warning, lane departure warning, rear collision warning, rear-cross traffic alert, driver alertness monitoring, and even speed limit information. And speaking of the speed limit information system, it integrates with adaptive cruise control to automatically adjust to the posted speed limit. On top of all this, you can opt for some other incredible safety features like active lane keeping assist and a parking assist system.
When it comes to purchasing the all-new X7, the xDrive40i starts at $73,900, while the xDrive50i starts at $92,600. Both options can be purchased with a Luxury or M Sport package, bringing the total of a fully loaded X7 up to $110K. Check out the X7 at your local BMW dealer to learn more.
